a book

a few of my favourite excerpts from The Book Thief by Markus Zusak:
(from Death's point of view.... in a war torn country...)

-A SMALL BUT NOTEWORTHY NOTE-
I've seen so many young men
over the years who think they're
running at other men.
They are not.
They're running at me.

-A SMALL PIECE OF TRUTH-
I do not carry a sickle or scythe.
I only wear a hooded black robe when it's cold.
And I don't

have those skull-like
facial features you seem to enjoy. You
want to know what I truly look like?
I'll help you out. Find yourself
a mirror while I continue.

-THE ONLY THING WORSE THAN A BOY WHO HATES YOU-
A boy who loves you.

"How about a kiss, saumensch?"
He stood waist-deep in the water for a few moments longer before climbing out and handing her the book. His pants clung to him, and he did not stop walking. In truth, I think he was afraid. Rudy Steiner was scared of the book thief's kiss. He must have longed for it so much. He must have loved her so incredibly hard. So hard that he would never ask for her lips again and would go to his grave without them.

On many accounts, taking a boy like Rudy was robbery - so much to live for - yet somehow, I'm certain he would have loved to see the frightening rubble and the swelling of the sky on the night he passed away. He'd have cried and turned and smiled if only he could have seen the book thief on her hands and knees, next to his decimated body. He'd have been glad to witness her kissing his dusty, bomb-hit lips.
Yes, I know it.
In the darkness of my dark-beating heart, I know. He'd have loved it all right.
You see?
Even death has a heart.

ok, i don't want to spoil the book but this book is really darn good... i only managed to put it down in order to blog... :-p

but of course, i'm going to finish it... read it for yourself... for this, i would like to thank wei li for lending this book to my bro which of course made me, help myself to it... thanks a gadzillion!!!
