ok, i've noticed that i've never really blogged about life in camp. mebbe i'm just so darn bored today that i had to give myself something to blog about otherwise i might go crazy. i also wanna help all those out there who got 'chosen' by computer. lol. if i had repeated some things, i apologize. but i warn you that this is going to be a long (boring) post as i am - afterall - squashing 65 days (and nights) into one post. so brace yourselves ladies and gentlemen.
i actually am able to keep up with all the days in camp cuz i actually wrapped a 1 inch book (which is now 2 inches thanks to my daily entries) and took it to camp with me. it does the job of a camera although not as good. and yes, i did write for 65 days cuz the one day i didn't write was the day we all spent awake; as it was the last night of camp and i wrote it the next day in the airport.
back to the days there: (i won't write all 65 days but only highlight a few, not in order. hopefully there are a few otherwise it's gonna be a bore to read. i can already sense some people sleeping...)
ARRIVAL & COMMUNITY SERVICE
when i arrived there on the 29/12/07, i couldn't believe it! i couldn't adjust to the life and that first week was horror. i could only wait for the weekend to get my handphone and then cry it out for almost an hour of conversation with my mom and bro. yea, sounds unbelievable but that's what happened. but after that, it wasn't so bad as i had already made friends and settled down. another note was that we all had to tolerate people who just won't shut up and sleep. they'd laugh and chat loudly about boys (no guys there are worth a nickel - that sounds cruel -, even the guys from the kampung we visited [kampung kopit] for our khidmat komuniti were much better looking) or worse, they'd turn on the radio!!! omgosh, sleep la you people!!!
talking about khidmat komuniti, one of them was blood donation and that time i was already 18!!! i didn't donate. i mean, i would, if i were in a reputable hospital but not in camp la wei. some more that day i had kayak event. what happen if i donated, then halfway through the event, i 'terbalik' the kayak? my partner and i might drown (yea right, we were wearing life jackets)
we also visited this pusat serenti kuching (drug rehab centre) which was housed next to the kuching jail, omg. so many barbed wires man. the people there were kinda cool actually although i was afraid of them at first. they have their own band! i actually had fun pulling weeds in their vegetable garden. the guy in charge told us not to pluck out the sawi. lol. i was actually excited about helping them to pull weeds!!! but it's obvious that i have green thumbs. xp real!!!
another one was visiting the orchid and pitcher plant garden. what did we see there? orchids and pitcher plants la what else. we just sat in a small air-conditioned room and listen to some guy mumble about public amenities. =.='
BEDS
we had many bed dropping laughs and i mean literally. there were a few beds (3 actually) that had 3 dividers instead of one long board and any forgetful person who sits onto the divider will just get sandwiched in between 2 boards. and that happened many times no matter how many times my dormies were told not to sit on it. and it always happened to the same person. i just got lucky and it never happened to me no matter how many times i sat on it. their leg will just go through or their butts will get squashed but i guess i had 'the skill'. lol.
HEADS
i was also the assistant dorm head. believe it or not. they wanted this "equality" thingy, and since the dorm head was a malay, they had to have a chinese dorm head. it was actually not me as we had a 'pick a folded paper' way, but yue jing didn't want it so she gave it to me. yue jing actually looks like chia sin, cute, but i can never get to take a picture with her cuz she will always run away.
CLOTHES/CLEANLINESS
and get this, when we wash our own clothes, we have to hang them out right? so, when the wind blows, the clothes that are not pegged tight will fly and sometimes land in the drain. omgosh, you can see panties in the drain and no one would bother to pick them up. i know it's dirty already la but can the owner please throw it or something? so unsightly. and they always give food to the cats and dogs wandering about. that's how our dorm dustbin gets rummaged and tipped which leaves a trail of disgusting mess RIGHT OUTSIDE OUR DORM DOOR!!! you can imagine the look on my face as i'm a really clean person. one speck of mess and you're gonna get butt whipped. (that's if i care for you and if you're a real good friend)
GROSS
another thing was that.... (guys, you can skip this part. you don't have to read it but if you want to, you can treat it as general knowledge...)
the malay girls actually wash their (in cruder language) pads!!! omg... that's sooooooooooo damn DISGUSTING!!! i don't know whether all of them do it, but there's a written toilet rule stuck to the wall of the toilet and one of the rule was washing sanitary napkins... shoot... the worst thing that had happened was that one such 'whoever' lazy ass just dumped it into the draining hole (the one with a lot of holes and you can flip it up and down). so, again, you can imagine the look on my face.
FLIES
there were a lot of flies as well in the beginning as the camp was near a chicken farm (omg, was that where all our chicken came from? i can't even look at a chicken in the eye... chicken and egg everyday for our meals...) you should see the fly/bug killing/frying mechanism (the one with the blue lights that you see in restaurants that sparks, when a bug is killed). the tray would be full to the brim with crispy, crunchy, fried insects. and the people in charge of the food will put the cloths that wipe the table to dry, right on top of the killing machine. Y-U-C-K-S.
MONEY
i think i spent the least amount of money there (i'm very stingy, no need to point it out. i made a big fuss over losing RM0.20 change from a bought ice-cream) and ate the least cups of maggi mee. the others were eating noodles like it was the only thing there to eat. that was how bad /boring the food was. but i don't advise you to do that. bad. you might turn bald in the end, or worse, turn yellow from all the noodles. then who's to blame huh?
GAMES
i participated in this 'rakit' thing during open day and it was quite fun cuz we kept beating the opposing houses each time. yeah! it was tiring and you could perhaps see my muscles (yea right) working overtime just to move the damn rakit with 10 huge people on it. we were even faster than the guys!!! call them wimps!!! haha...
participated in volleyball but didn't win cuz only one person in our team knows how to play volleyball. ey, arms were all blue black ok, so we did try our best...
the teacher was telling her to "keep serving correctly and we will win" but for how long can a person serve? lol. she did most of the services.
then, there was this marching competition, which during practice, we weren't so bad but when we entered the marching field, we totally screwed up. the girls were arguing (yes, during a competition, while marching) that we follow the back people (do we have eyes at the back of our heads???!!!) but logically, the front people followed the person in front. so half of the group was 'left' and the other half was 'right'. how uncoordinated was that? didn't win.
but we did win netball. we beat our 'ex-sister' (at first we supported each other in matches, but after a while, they started to 'back-stab' us, so we return the favour... XD... i'm not involved in those kind of crappy stuff... very good girl wan...); charlie company 14-2... lol... 14-2!!!
in addition, i also participated in kayak doubles, and yea, we won 1st place!!! haha. happy happy. it was a relay and the 2 doubles team mates before us (jee wen and i) were so damn slow we thought we never had a chance. they paddled slowly to tag us, (no one actually knows how to kayak!!! except me, and 2 other people who were brave enough to join kayak singles) we shot out and overtook the alpha team!!! we almost got stuck on the bank when we had to do a 180 degree turn to go to the finishing line but we beat them!!! yeah!!! golden, shiny medal... (yea i know, i'm boasting/gloating... so mean of me...)
the colt m-16 5.56mm (my fav. part)... yea... i held one. what did you get to hold?? ('show off' a bit) ok la... just kidding about you but not me XD
we were given 20 bullets to shoot and it was some kind of competition thing. since i'm a left hander, i had to put the gun at the place where the shells come out (thank god it didn't hit me cuz some other left handed guy got a nice red streak on his face). the gunshots were so damn loud and deafening. luckily we all wore ear plugs. i shot 20 bullets and all 20 bullets hit the target!!! yeah man!!! i'm that 'pro'... lol... not kidding wei. i got 60 marks la. i missed the top 10 by 3 marks. shoot la. the first was a guy with 80. the second was a GIRL from selangor with 73. so i'm not that bad ok. got a lot of people got 'egg'. (you know what i mean... which means ZERO la) aiyo, but the toilets at the 'lapang sasar' were horrible. imagine a mold-filled, algae-walled toilet with no flush!!! NO FLUSH!!! and the toilet door had nice little holes for peeking... =.=' haih, 'tahan' lor.
TV/ASTRO
i thank whoever it was who suggested a television in the bilik rehat cuz in the evenings, my friends and i would conquer the room to watch chinese soaps from 7-8 pm before going to the dewan for ho-hum (yawn) ceramah's. it was also in there where i celeb'd my b'day. my friends are soooo nice yea? they wanted to 'help' me make up (play with the cream on the cake la) but my puppy dog eyes and multiple pleas of "don't waste food la" stopped them just short of giving me new eyebrows. i also get to eat 'outside food' on sunday's cuz i go to church and after that, we go to the shops to eat brunch. i always eat 'siu yok' a.k.a. roasted porky. yummy!!! my buddhist friends go to the tokong and their parents give them 'outside food/home cooked food' to be brought back to camp. and i get to eat too! am i lucky or what. after cny hols (i did go back to kl), they brought back 3 boxes of oranges to be distributed!!! and yes, we ate oranges everyday!!! haha, we all turned orange colour! (no la)
HEALTH
there were only 3 times i 'visited' the camp clinic. one was for my eye.
another was for my bleeding toe (which the doctor said it was the cause of long nails but i know it was the spike boots fault!!!) and another for my "old ladies" back pain... the doctor there commented on my pandafan and said i was like a doraemon. =.=' what does that mean?? do i look fat?? round?? blue?? another health (not really) matter was that my friends helped me to pluck out a white hair!!! omg omg omg... i'm getting old. and believe it or not, i really stuck it in my book!!! haha.
i also had a bad stomach ache eating semi-cooked maggi mee (my 1st at the camp!!!) cuz the water was not hot enough. another food horror was when we were taught how to cook rice in the metal tin, the teacher asked us to cover it with the flimsy plastic bag in order to ensure the rice was thoroughly cooked. and they were happily eating it afterwards!!! don't they know it's POISONOUS??!!! the plastic was melting at the sides!!! omg... you people... i didn't eat it. no way man! you can eat it!
but to tell you the truth, you should have a good reason to go to the medic cuz no matter what kind of illness you get, you'll always be given the same medicine. but got trainees who feign illness and they get 'cuti' cuz the doctor wouldn't know whether they're lying or not wut... truly and really. not kidding.
POINTS & PEOPLE
it was surprising that although in the beginning, delta company got the most demerits and got 4th the most of the time, we got 2nd in the end!!! yeah.
and delta's green colour. reminds me of green house in sri garden. haha. they called this guy (who's our delta ketua) 'anak tarzan'. lol. dunno why. there's also this weird guy who called himself belalang. it's cuz he found a grasshopper and kept it. it died 3 days later. so he felt sorry and called himself belalang in 'loving memory' of it. he also called himself 'lipan' the next time. wtheck... told you he was weird.
VISITS
we went to kampung budaya where i visited most of the traditional houses. not my fault la cuz they organized a treasure hunt so i had no time to really appreciate the houses except run about like crazed people. but the performances where really funny. there was this guy who was supposed to use the sumpit to shoot the balloons.
he missed the first time and he took off his headgear.
he missed the second time and he took of his fur-like coat.
he missed the third time and i almost thought he wanted to take of his loin-cloth... omgosh...
he actually took of his hunting gear which was tied at his waist and i didn't see that. =.='
then when he wanted to shoot the fourth time, the girls in front were giggling.
you know why?
cuz this orang asli dude's butt cheeks were visible. his loin-cloth was just one long cloth in front and one long cloth behind. you get the picture.
omg...
eyes defiled...
thank god i didn't sit in front cuz the front seat was low and near the stage. the girls were busy snapping pictures... lol...
he made a stern motion and pointed at the balloons. then, he pulled the loin-cloth thing to close his right butt cheek (but i think the female performers behind him saw his butt...) haha... so damn funny la wei.
he didn't miss the fourth time la. i think he missed on purpose.
before he left the stage though, he made a handphone sign to some girls in the front row.
he's real funny.
paid rm10 for the entry into kampung budaya.
i guess it was worth it. after all, it was my first time in sarawak. if i didn't go, then what use would it be to go to sarawak (by force) and don't see traditional stuff?
the only other place we went was waterfront. i didn't shop much there. you should have seen the girls buying bags and bags of kek lapis. so colourful! they bought until the guy had to close shop man. so darn extreme. 4-6 bags a girl. lol.
FOREST
oh, and there was this forest thingy that where we were supposed to stay overnight. we were split 4 in a group. we had to make our own tents.
while pitching it, it rained. and we were soaked to the underclothes i tell you. the damn 'fatigues don't absorb water' my foot! it stormed so hard that it was canceled. we had to take down our tents. the place was not really deep inside the forest. there was actually a path to get there just behind our camp. there were actually people who took pictures in the forest but in the end they deleted them. can you imagine when you develop the pictures, you MIGHT see a floating white thingy beside you, or a semi-transparent hand on your shoulder... shudder... yea, i mean you might 'disturb them' when 'they' were bathing or something. i don't wanna be in that situation man. i've heard my fair share of 'stories'. yes, in the camp itself. if interested, then only i blog la... when we arrived back in the dorm, the place was wet like some damn humongous frog just went through. and my teacher slipped and fell. i think she's 50... we all got so worried but she was alright. thank goodness.
well, that probably sums up my 'stay' at kem puncak permai, tondong, bau, sarawak. lol. it's in tondong (a pekan) which is in bau (a district/small city i think, my geo stinks) which is in sarawak (a state).
oh, and there were also these gross, evacuate pictures (from the royal police malaysia who where at the camp to promote some police thing) of people who had road accidents because they drank and drove. it's really disgusting. the brains everywhere, blood, squashed parts... not kidding. will post them up the next time if i didn't forget. i'm darn serious you morbid people!!!
